Church of England School of the Resurrection

PSHE and Relationships

At the School of the Resurrection Church of England Primary School, we are committed to helping our children grow into happy, confident, and responsible individuals. Through our PSHE curriculum, pupils learn the knowledge and skills needed to build positive relationships, stay healthy, and thrive in modern Britain — all underpinned by our Christian values of love, respect, and compassion.

What We Teach

Following the Department for Education’s 2020 guidance, Relationships Education is now compulsory in all primary schools.
Our curriculum helps children to:

  • Understand family and friendships

  • Learn how to treat others with kindness and respect

  • Recognise the difference between online and offline relationships

  • Stay safe in a range of situations

We use Manchester Healthy Schools resources — an NHS-led programme — to support the teaching of PSHE and Relationships Education. Lessons are age-appropriate, inclusive, and sensitive to the religious backgrounds of our pupils.

As a school, we have decided not to teach additional Sex Education beyond the national curriculum for Science. However, pupils will learn about:

  • Puberty and the changing body

  • Emotional and physical wellbeing

  • Menstrual wellbeing

These lessons help ensure all children understand how their bodies change and how to keep themselves safe and healthy. Some sessions may be supported by a member of our school nursing team.

Please note: there is no right to withdraw from Relationships Education at primary level, as this learning covers essential topics such as family, friendship, and online safety.
